Serene Sunday

How time flies…..6 years ago……me and David went to Paris for vacation. We didn’t have any kids then but still we spent a good 3 days in Paris DisneyLand. Guess we are kids at heart…..heehee

I bought 2 mickey mouse kids t-shirt, same design some more, like what David said then, it was as if I knew we would have 2 kids. I kept these 2 t-shirts in my wardrobes for 6 years, in just a blink of an eye, the kids are old enough to fit the tops. Though still a little big for RayAnne.

Today, we stopped by the Kranji Reservoir, actually wanted to let the kids play at the playground before dropping by LCK, several weeks ago, we bought the kids to the same playground and the kids had a great time there. This is a very different playground. This is the type of playground we just to play when we were young, very traditional. The slides were made of smooth stone and it’s very easy and cool to slide down. There is also the traditional swings and see-saws. The kids have never slide down such a high slide nor sat on a swing and swing so hard their little hearts nearly popped out. They also had never plays on a see-saw before…….

But it was not to be, it rained very hard in the wee hours and the playground’s flooded.

The Rays were disappointed upon learning that they were not able to play at the playground. Instead, we bought them to take a stroll at the Kranji reservoir jetty. It was very old.

Precisely because it’s so isolated and old, not many people frequent it. It’s so quiet and serene. All we could hear is only the occasion bus going by, some insects making noise, some birds chirping and small fishes making small ripples in the water. It was a very peaceful experience, very different from our day to day life.

Here, the kids also experienced some more things they never experienced before. Like sitting on a bench and the bench falling apart. Standing so near the grass edge that small little black ants climbed onto their feet and starting biting them. To me, it was a laughing experience, very bad mummy right…….but these are the things our kids never got to experience. They are so so CITY KIDS….so so suaku that they don’t know what is nature. Think I am going to bring them to Pulau Ubin and experience some more of mother nature.

So in short, over this short weekend, the Rays got to experience what their parents played with and enjoyed during their times.

The traditional playground, not many can be seen round Singapore anymore except for those older estates. The old and ulu reservoir whom most people have already long forgotten……and of cos the old broken bench and ant bites….in short, now when you ask them about Kranji, they remember the fun playground and they also remember the old jetty and NEVER to stand too near to the grass patch OR ELSE, ants will climb up your feet and start to bite you…..

And to make it a happy ending, Rayner tells me, Mummy, luckily not RED ants leh, because red ants bit even more painful……hahahahaha…..my kids!

JULIAN: ohhhh…you are visiting ah…..Singapore like not much places to go wor……standard places of interest would SENTOSA lar, Zoo, Night Safari, Jurong Birdpark also worth a visit, Science centre also fun but may not be suitable for your girl yet. Goat farm also can, your girl can feed the goats, the animal resorts also not bad, can let her get up close and personal with some of the animals like horse, rabbits……the farm mart also not bad! etc etc….

  5. wow…i love bringing ethyl out to nature, but Brian is not so keen…hmm…maybe i should persuade him on this. It looks like a lovely time u had :) How has life been ?

FANNIE: Dear, I am like you, as long as I am spending time with my rays, anywhere also fun…..heehee…..David is quite adventurous when it comes to bringing the kids out, he likes to test out new places but it’s me who is more concern over the kids…..heehee

  6. Jan, have you brought the kids to Upper Pierce Reservoir before? Its quite a nice place too. On the way going in, the kids can get a chance to see wild monkeys….they can also fish (simple fishing using just a net), jog or cycle and at the same time enjoy the fresh air…some people actually picinic there…

I havent been to Kranji Reservoir. Maybe our next venture point :)

MDM2359: Upper Pierce Reservoir ah….noted…..Kranji reservoir isn’t as interesting as Pierce reservoir lar……Kranji is a lot more ulu and run down…..next weekend we shall explore Upper Pierce Reservoir…..watch out, here we come!!!

  7. Oh! it’s like a great experience for the kids.

MAMATANG: it’s an eye opener for the kids cos they have never seen or play at such a playground before…..also never been to such an old reservoir before……also never seen dead floating fish up the shoreline before…….

  8. Good to let the kids be near to nature. I always bring Damien to shopping centre, he’s become a shopping centre kid. :P Perhaps i should start venturing the parks and reservoir…

EILEEN: yes, let’s turn our modern shopping centre kids around…….

  9. It is always nice to get away from the busy city. Our mind need to rest also what else, let your children run wild. No fast passing car, no crazy motorcyclist. But wait! There’s ants! Watch out!!!

Hijackqueen: yaya…lots of ants, that is certainly one major deterrent…..but the quietness there is really peaceful
